Biggles and Cookie on Whenua Hou

Biggles and Cookie have just returned from Whenua Hou (Codfish Island). They had an amazing week learning about the kakapo recovery programme and meeting all the volunteers who are helping ensure our beautiful native parrot is protected.
Here are some photos of their trip. Before they travelled to the island they had to be washed in a disinfectant called Trigent. This helps protect the islands animals and plant life. Biggles has been in a helicopter before but it was a first for Cookie. Grant the pilot kept saying 'gidday mate' to him. Finding a tail feather of a kakapo was really cool. Wouldn't it be amazing if they get to go on another field trip next term? Maybe you could add some interesting things you learned from doing the field trip with our ambassadors?

Gidday,
4B students are very excited to learn that Cookie has been on a helicopter. We have been reading about his adventures on Codfish Island and happy to know he is having such a good time! It is sad to learn that there are only 124 Kakapo left in the world, so we are glad that you are looking after them now. Cookie looks very fluffy after his special wash. He seems to be having so much fun that he will want to stay in New Zealand. Thanks for taking such good care of him while he is away from home!!!
