Reading Rocks!

A few days ago as part of Book Week, we were in the hall watching an hilarious juggler named Adrian.  He showed us some books - a fairy book, a war book, a shark book and the land of the wild beasts book. He tried juggling with 5 juggling balls and he found it pretty tricky and finally he did his final act where he got someone to get on his shoulders (but definitely not a teacher). Then he got a teacher to come up and catch the boy  on his shoulders after he somersaulted off Adrian's shoulders while he was riding a unicycle. His message was all about Reading Rocks!!

Our Plays

We have been practising lots for our plays. Ours was called Clever Cats. We had 8 characters. There was: stray cat 1, stray cat 2, stray cat 3 and 4, cyclist, school kid , Mrs Tilby and Mr Tilby. We didn't use many props, only a metal stool, a small bin, a fake sausage, a fake tin of cat food and fake sardine sandwiches. I think we did a pretty good job on our play. 

Squiggle art

On Monday the 28th of September Room 17 made squiggle art
 [1] Draw a big squiggly shape[Like an odd big squiggle]
 [2] Put lots of different patterns in each bit
 [3] Colour in the shapes with aquirell pencils.
 [4) Wait for it to dry and  paint it with water.

The Top Team Event

On Friday the 25 of September  Room 17 and the school rushed outside to get into lines up to 24 or 25. We got into lines because we were getting ready to do the top team event! We did lots of activities up to 13 of them. There was hoop toss, gumboot throw, tower stacking , and toxic waiste plus many more. After that we all got an ice block.

Luke Smart

Luke Smart is a learning hero because he is always ready, willing and able to become more strategic about learning. He likes planning, revising, distilling and meta-learning but we're still finding out about these learning muscles. He loves learning with others and learning new things with his family Sticky Bility,  Imogen Ation and Alison Careful

The Cheeky Red Hen

Classes 18 and 12 have done a play called the Smart Red Hen. There were the characters: A mother hen, a little red hen and lots of crocodiles. They sang 3 songs and did lots of acting also and 2 songs were with instruments.

Apostrophes

Apostrophes are two different kinds like when something is belonging  and contractions when you take away letters.  They can appear at and in odd places  where you would never even suspect. They're confusing but we're still learning about them!

I am a learning hero because....

I am a learning hero because I know what my next steps in learning are. I learn from my mistakes and know what I need to do next time to get better at my learning.

The Cross Country

When we ran the cross country we ran across the alps, out the back gate, past the houses, and through the back gate to the field where the finish line was. There were lots of parents guiding us along the track so we didn't get lost. Team Weka girls ran first then Team Weka boys and next Team Kakapo girls and finally Team Kakapo boys.

How to Use the Traffic Light

If you look at the 3 circles, green, red and yellow circles, above them there is a circle switch. Turn it to the right then the lights will work. Also green means talk in your outside voice, orange means whisper, red means no talking .

Wanda the Wombat

Wanda the wombat is going to be staying with us in Room 17.  She will stay with us until the end of the year.  She is fuzzy and her hair is gray and she is very cute.

School Fair

On Saturday we had a school fair.Room 16 was doing balloon popping so was room 15.Kapa haka group was there too and there was food everywhere and activities and rides too. Did you know we sold 85 prizes with balloon popping and 300 balloons sold for 50c.Room 12 was selling the school paintings at the fair too.

VOLCANOES

YESTERDAY ROOM 16 MADE VOLCANOES.WE USED SAND , BAKING SODA, RED FOOD COLOURING ,CONTAINER AND TOY DINOSAURS.

Paper mache

Room 16 have been doing paper mache for the last 8 weeks and some of use are doing creatures.
We are doing painting as well and people are showing excellence in their work.

Papier mache

Room 16 has been doing papier mache. We have been doing this for six weeks.We are learning not to use too much glue because it might DEFLATE!.Some of us are nearly finished.But I'm still on my first layer.These are my friends doing papier mache. Some people are making animals.

Fish tank

Room16 has an awesome fish tank. It has a black with a red tail shark, four red headed fish with a
black and white tail and a leopard fish and baby snails with a little barrel and a castle and the fish tank has to be warm with a light on the top of the fish tank . We have to look after them and feed
them and they have a log in there to hide in.
